About Us

More information about Newton Athletic

Newton Athletic was originally formed in 1966 as and adult football club and celebrated it’s 50th anniversary in 2016. The junior element of Newton Athletic was formed in 1991 with the sole purpose to allow junior players the opportunity to participate in organised grassroots football. Over the past 25 years we have become one of the biggest junior football clubs in Chester. Over this period we have gained a fine reputation for serving the local community by attracting and developing players, managers and coaches in the Chester area.

Today we have teams from Under 6 years of age to Under 18s in our junior section. We also have an adults team and recently set up a vets team for those adults who wish to play more socially.

We are registered with the Cheshire FA and in 2011 we were awarded the Cheshire FA Chartered Standard Club of the year award. Every coach is desired to have a FA coaching qualification and every person working with the children is required to have a CRB check and understand child protection. The club is formally run by a committee with elected officers who also oversee the financial stability of the organisation.

We operate under the Cheshire FA Chartered Standard Community Status which highlights the prestigious and high quality work that the club is doing. Newton Athletic are also proud to be based out of Cheshire County Sports Club which boasts facilities that are second to none with all year round training available on the synthetic pitches.

The aims of our club

The key objects of the Club are to provide facilities, promote the game of Association Football, to arrange matches and social activities for its members and community participation in the same. The club encourages those of all abilities to play football and improve their ability and fitness. We currently have approximately 20 teams from Under 6 through to adult and have multiple teams in most age groups.

Our Community Club Status

Newton Athletic were officially awarded the FA Charter Standard ‘Community’ Club Status in April 2013. We are now one of 23 clubs in Cheshire to have received FA Charter Standard Community Club status, a huge achievement by the club and all involved. The award was officially handed over to our Chairman by Cheshire FA Football Development Officer Dawn Georgeson at a celebration event at Chester FC.

Dawn Georgeson said:  “Achieving Community Club status is not an easy task, Newton Athletic have worked tirelessly to secure this award and it is credit to all the volunteers for all their hard work and dedication. “This is true recognition, from The FA, that the club provides a safe, quality experience for its players and is dedicated to improving grassroots football.”

Key facts about the level of clubs with Community status:

1. In the UK there are 29,000 football clubs.

2. Of these 690 have Charetered Standard Community Status.

3. Only 23 out of 900 clubs in Cheshire have achieved this status.

Newton Athletic is a Nike partner
